Description

Athalassa National Forest Park has a total area of 840 hectares and is located on the south-eastern edge of the city of Nicosia. It is an oasis of greenery with many endemic, indigenous trees, shrubs and herbs. Its network of trails – covering 20 kilometres – makes it a popular place to walk, run or cycle. The Botanical Gardens are open daily and are free of charge to visit, whilst the grounds of the park also incorporate a Visitor’s Centre that provides information about the environmental features of the park. It's a nice park and the lake has different species of waterfowl. The park is also a good escape from the summer heat. Among the birds you can observe are Black Francolin, Little Grebe, Northern Shoveler, Common Teal, Ferruginous Duck, Black-crowned Night Heron, Cattle Egret, Little Egret, Sardinian Warbler and Grey Wagtail.
