One of the best places in Bulgaria for birdwatching. A valley surrounded by mountain slopes and rock massifs up to 150 m high.
Madzharovo is a part of the deep, narrow valley of the Arda river, surrounded by mountain slopes and rock massifs up to 150 m high located in the Eastern Rhodopes. A big part of its territory is occupied by rock complexes, single cliffs and stony screes. A mosaic of tree, shrub and grass vegetation. The agricultural lands are located mainly in the high parts of the valley and valley extension itself. The riverbed is sandy-stony and its banks are overgrown with willows and shrubs. The territory of Madzharovo supports 174 bird species. Many cliffs with breeding Griffon Vulture. Other special birds are Eurasian Black Vulture, Egyptian Vulture, Golden Eagle, Lesser Spotted Eagle, Western Rock Nuthatch and Black Stork.
There is a Vulture center where you can eat and drink something and park your car. It's best to explore the area on foot. Good possibilities for hiking.
The Nature Conservation Center “Eastern Rhodopes” can be found next to the bridge over the River Arda or the center of Madzharovo town.
