The Schallebroek ponds are located on a busy migratory bird route in the Demer valley. This wide valley has a naturally winding river, marshlands, grasslands and forests. Birds that you can encounter on and around the Schallebroek ponds are Northern Shoveler, Common Teal, Common Pochard, Tufted Duck, Common Kingfisher, Water Rail, Common Greenshank, Common Snipe, Black-tailed Godwit en Grey Wagtail.
