The polders of Kruibeke are only a few kilometres away of Antwerp. It's the biggest flooding area of Belgium with an area of 600 hectares.
The polders van Kruibeke is a varied landscape of mud flats and salt marshes, alder brook forest and meadows.
Ducks an geese like Barnacle Goose , Greylag Goose , Common Shelduck , Northern Shoveler and Common Teal but also a lot of Common Kingfisher can be seen on the meadow and creeks all year around, roe deers are also often seen on the meadows.
in the winter there are less birds than in the rest of the year, but then you have a chance to see some more rare birds like Great Grey Shrike and Penduline Tit . In spring there is already more to see. Great Crested Grebe come back to breed, but also Avocet , Ruff , Eurasian Spoonbill and many other birds come back. Little Bittern and Black-crowned Night Heron are the rarer birds that breed in the polders of kruibeke.
During spring and autum migration you can see birds like the Osprey and White-tailed Eagle.
There is a boat from Hoboken and Hemiksem that goes to Kruibeke for free, you can go by bike and on foot on the boat. You can also go with the car to the parking. The route you see on the map is about 16 km.
