Plaine des Manoeuvres has different kinds of habitats: some small woods, lawns, a kind of wasteland (perhaps a real estate project will be created there) and a small pond. Even if this area has lost quite a bit of its biological interest in recent decades due to the construction of many buildings and therefore the reduction of green spaces, in particular a meadow with scattered bushes (between 1960 and 1985 one could find on this site Eurasian Skylark, Meadow Pipit, Eurasian Tree Sparrow, Linnet, Western Yellow Wagtail nesting birds and even Crested Lark singers and Great Grey Shrike wintering!), this remains an area quite popular with many common bird species such as Blackbird, Song Thrush, European Robin, Dunnock, Great Spotted Woodpecker and full of tits: Marsh Tit, Eurasian Blue Tit, Great Tit, Long-tailed Tit, or even Coal Tit. Other common but rarer species to see in the city but present on this site are Short-toed Treecreeper, Eurasian Green Woodpecker (which nests on the site occasionally), European Goldfinch who particularly appreciates the unspoilt area on Boulevard du Triomphe, Greenfinch, Common Buzzard, Sparrowhawk, Black Redstart and House Sparrow.

Français: Zones avec quelques éspaces verts entre des campus d'universités comme l'ULB ou VUB. Ce site comporte quelques petits bois, beaucoup de zones de pelouses, une sorte de friche (mais peut-être un projet immobilier va se creer a cet endroit)et une petite marre. Même si cette zone à perdu pas mal de son intéret biologique au cours des dernières décennies due a la construction de nombreux batiments et donc la reduction d'éspaces verts nottament une prairie avec de buissons épars (entre 1960 et 1985 on pouvait trouver sur ce site des Eurasian Skylark, des Meadow Pipit, des Eurasian Tree Sparrow, des Linnet, des Western Yellow Wagtail nicheuses et meme des Crested Lark chanteurs et Great Grey Shrike hivernante !), celle ci reste une zone assez apprécié par beaucoup d'éspèces d'oiseaux communs comme le Blackbird ,la Song Thrush ,le European Robin, le Dunnock,le Great Spotted Woodpecker et plein de mésanges: la Marsh Tit ,la Eurasian Blue Tit, la Great Tit, la Long-tailed Tit, ou même la Coal Tit. D'autres éspèces communes mais plus rares a voir en pleine ville mais que sur ce site sont présentes sont: le Short-toed Treecreeper, le Eurasian Green Woodpecker (qui niche meme sur le site ocasionellement), le European Goldfinch qui aprécie spéciallement la zone laissé sauvage coté boulevard du triomphe, le Greenfinch, la Common Buzzard,l'Sparrowhawk,le Black Redstart et le House Sparrow.

In addition to the species mentioned above, the Plaine des Manouevres is a rather interesting site for migrating birds, which make a stop there. From March the birds begin their migration and during their long journey some species stop, even for a few days, to rest. The Reed Warbler, Marsh Warbler, Greater Whitethroat, Garden Warbler, Common Redstart, Pied Flycatcher, Willow Warbler or (much) more rare Spotted Flycatcher, Melodious Warbler, Icterine Warbler, European Stonechat, Whinchat, Ring Ouzel, Tree Pipit and even Red-backed Shrike (which was seen again in June 2021) are birds that stop at the site during spring and autumn migration.
In spring a few species settle on the plain, such as Common Chiffchaff and Blackcap, while Common Starling are seen more often than in winter. In winter one can observe the Redwing, the Fieldfare, a greater quantity of Common Chaffinch, between the end of November and February of the Eurasian Siskin in places with alders and birches, and if you are lucky some Hawfinch and Brambling.

Français: En plus des éspèces cités précédemment, la Plaine des manouevres est un site assez intérresant pour les oiseaux en migration, qui y font halte voluntiers. Dès mars les oiseaux commencent leur migration pré-nuptiale et pendant leur long périple quelques espéces font halte, même pendant quelques jours, pour se reposer. La Reed Warbler, la Marsh Warbler, la Greater Whitethroat, la Garden Warbler,le Common Redstart, le Pied Flycatcher, le Willow Warbler ou (bien) plus rarement le Spotted Flycatcher, l' Melodious Warbler, l' Icterine Warbler, le European Stonechat, le Whinchat, le Ring Ouzel, le Tree Pipit et même la Red-backed Shrike (qui a encore été vu en juin 2021!) sont des oiseaux qui font halte sur le site pendant les migrations de printemps et d'automne, même si c'est possible de les voir en halte en juin par example.
Au printemps quelques éspèces s'installent sur la plaine, tels que le Common Chiffchaff et la Blackcap, alors que on voit plus souvent qu'en hiver des Common Starling. En hiver on pourra observer la Redwing, la Fieldfare, une plus grande quantité de Common Chaffinch, entre fin novembre et février des Eurasian Siskin dans les endroits avec des aulnes et bouleaux, et si on a de la chance des Hawfinch et des Brambling.
