Old flood plain between the river Senne and the Leuven-Dijle canal where many birds can be seen.
Den Battelaer is a nature reserve of 33 hectares and part of the green belt around Mechelen. It is an old flood plain between the Senne and the Leuven-Dijle canal and many different species of birds can be seen such as Common Nightingale, Bluethroat, Cetti's Warbler, Blackcap, Common Cuckoo, Northern Lapwing, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Eurasian Green Woodpecker, Reed Warbler, Sedge Warbler, Common Snipe, Gadwall, Common Pochard and Marsh Warbler.

Nederlands: Den Battelaer is een natuurgebied van 33 hectare en onderdeel van de groene gordel rond Mechelen. Het is een oud overstromingsgebied tussen de Zenne en het kanaal Leuven-Dijle en er zijn veel verschillende soorten vogels te zien zoals Common Nightingale, Bluethroat, Cetti's Warbler, Blackcap, Common Cuckoo, Northern Lapwing, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Eurasian Green Woodpecker, Reed Warbler, Sedge Warbler, Common Snipe, Gadwall, Common Pochard en Marsh Warbler.
The dikes around Den Battelaer are the perfect path for a walk around the nature reserve. Click on the P in the map for directions. The circular walk on the map is about 5 km long. Easy to combine with a visit to GGG Zennegat (also described on Birdingplaces)
