Description

Cattana Wetlands is a nice stop just outside of the Cairns CBD and a great place to see a variety of birds including Lovely Fairywren, Comb-crested Jacana, Double-eyed Fig-Parrot, Black Bittern, Little Kingfisher and a host of other North Queensland regulars. The paths are easy to navigate but be prepared for the heat if you go late morning as it gets warm.

The area comprises of a series of lagoons and ponds the majority or which have the option to complete a circular loop around. There is also a boardwalk through a section of coastal rainforest that can provide good views of some of the more cryptic birds but be warned its usually thick with mosquitoes.
