Vardakar (Horom) Reservoir lies in the open highlands of Shirak, surrounded by grasslands and low hills. The mix of open water, muddy shores, and steppe habitats attracts a variety of birds, including Ruddy Shelduck, Great White Pelican, White-winged Snowfinch and various gulls and terns. Raptors like Montagu's Harrier and Long-legged Buzzard can also be seen hunting nearby. Access
Vardakar Reservoir is located in Shirak Province, near the village of Vardakar.
You can get there by a local minibus from Gyumri bus station. Buses from Gyumri to Artik run approximately every half an hour. The ticket costs 300 AMD (2025). Ask the driver to drop you off at jrambarr.
It also can be reached by car or taxi from Gyumri. The road takes about 25 minutes.
You can park near the reservoir and explore the area on foot along the shoreline and surrounding fields. A visit typically takes 1–4 hours, depending on bird activity and walking routes.
