Description

NWT Ranworth Broad is accessible to all and boasts a great visitor centre (which is open in the spring and summer) with wide views over Ranworth Broad. The broad (lake) itself offers chances to see Great Crested Grebe, Common Kingfisher and Western Marsh Harrier throughout the year, while the boardwalk trail supports Marsh Tit, Eurasian Bullfinch and Water Rail may also be heard.

In winter, the broad will be busy with feeding wildfowl including Eurasian Wigeon, Common Teal, Northern Shoveler, Northern Pintail and a few Tufted Duck. In periods of harsh weather, Great Bittern, Greater Scaup and other scarcer species may be seen. The alder trees on the trail from the car park may hold good numbers of Eurasian Siskin and Lesser Redpoll.

In summer, there is a chance of seeing a flyover Osprey, but more likely, there will be plenty of Common Tern feeding over the broad. Large gatherings of Barn Swallow, House Martin and Sand Martin may also be seen. Listen out for the songs of Common Chiffchaff, Sedge Warbler, Reed Warbler and even a Common Cuckoo along the boardwalk trail.
