Description

Mutter's Moor (or Muttersmoor) is often classed as part of the East Devon Pebblebed Heath, it's nearest heathland is Fire Beacon Hill and Core Hill Wood (see seperate entry) just to the North. Whilst the main East Devon Pebblebed Heath is further to the West Aylesbeare Common and Hawkerland Valley/Venn Ottery Common/Bystock Pools Nature Reserve and Squabmoor Reservoir/Colaton Raleigh Common/Woodbury Common and Bicton Common (see seperate entries).

During World War II it was a site for Barrage Balloons and during the stone age was heavily populated. It gets it's name from Abraham Mutter a merchant and smuggler during the 1840s. There are multiple paths to take around the site, PLEASE KEEP TO PATHS SO AS NOT TO DISTURB NESTING BIRDS. Some birds depending on season are Engoulevent d'Europe, Fauvette pitchou, Faucon émerillon, Pipit des arbres and Locustelle tachetée.
