The Nemrut Crater Lake is the second largest crater lake in the world. The landscape is impressive for both birders and nature enthusiasts.
The Nemrut Crater Lake has vegetation that is very interesting for birdwatching. However, there is the brown bear (Ursus arctos) that needs to be take into account. This is an ex-breeding habitat of the Velvet Scoter. In the area you can see several steppe species as well once the snow has melted in spring. Among the birds you can encounter are Chukar, Grey Partridge, Ortolan Bunting, Common Rock Thrush, Lesser Grey Shrike, Western Rock Nuthatch, Crimson-winged Finch, Long-legged Buzzard and Finsch's Wheatear.
You can reach the area best by car. It is close to Tatvan district of Bitlis. You can find accommodation in Tatvan which is close to the area. There is no public transport to reach the lake area. Click on a P in the map for directions or coordinates.
