The best place in Bangkok for urban birding. It's worth to visit if you only have a few days in the city to observe most common species in Thailand.
Benjakitti Park is the first park in Bangkok with a forest park and has an area of 72 hectares. Facilities include elevated walkways, wetlands, rare plant areas, cycle paths etc. In my opinion Benjakitti Park gives the best birding opportunities of all Bangkok's city parks (Lumpini, Benchasiri or Wachirabenchathat/Rot Fai Park). Because it includes different types of landscapes with wide set of bird species.
You will find for example birds typical for park grasslands with some old trees (Indochinese Roller, Common Myna, Ashy Drongo, Zebra Dove Great Myna),
typical for a lake (Javan Pond-Heron, Striated Heron, Collared Kingfisher Sunbittern, White-throated Kingfisher Yellow Bittern )
and typical for a wetland area with reeds easily accessible thanks to a skywalk (Asian Koel, Plain Prinia, White-breasted Waterhen, Scaly-breasted Munia, Scarlet-backed Flowerpecker , Coppery Thorntail Coppersmith Barbet , Brown Shrike , Greater Coucal).
Benjakitti Park is located in the Khlong Toei District of central Bangkok. it is ituated next to the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. It is close to Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre MRT station, Sukhumvit MRT station and Asok BTS station. There are cycling paths but the best birding experience you will get by walking.
In the park you can also easily observe a population of Water monitor (Varanus salvator).
