From August to October, numerous thermal gliding birds can be observed passing through the skies around Gurten. The best time is late August and early September. Then large numbers of European Honey-buzzard are possible. With a bit of luck, Black Stork will also pass by. Other regular species are: Common Buzzard, Sparrowhawk, Eurasian Goshawk, Eurasian Kestrel, Eurasian Hobby, Red Kite, Black Kite, Osprey, Montagu's Harrier, Western Marsh Harrier and White Stork. In later autumn large flocks of Common Wood Pigeon pass by. From time to time Alpine Swift can be observed on food flights.
