Lake on the western side of the island of Gotland. The lake is a popular destination among birders.
Lake Paviken and its surroundings form a nature reserve which has some of the best birding on the island of Gotland. The nutritious lake is a stop-over site for migratory birds during spring and autumn. The birds are also attracted by the reeds and grazed, damp meadows. A total of 240 bird species has been observed in the area. The lake has a bird observation tower on the east side. Ducks, Great Bittern, Common Crane and Western Marsh Harrier thrive here together with many other species. In the bushes by the lakeshore you can hear singing warblers and rails in the evenings and nights. Among the other birds you can see are Whooper Swan, Thrush Nightingale, Spotted Crake, Water Rail, Garganey, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker and Penduline Tit. Rare guests that have been seen here are Black Stork, Red-crested Pochard, Red-footed Falcon, Red-breasted Goose, Eurasian Hoopoe and Red-rumped Swallow.
You can reach the bird tower by following the path along Paån from the car park by the road Visby–Klintehamn.
