One of few popular coastal birding sites in Uppland. Many local rarities can be seen here during the migration periods.
The Ledskär area has four bird towers, one of which is located at the edge of a very shallow bay which is super popular amongst waterfowl like Northern Pintail, Eurasian Wigeon and Greater White-fronted Goose as well as waders like Common Redshank, Spotted Redshank, Eurasian Curlew and Common Ringed Plover. Ledskär is also a good place to see Caspian Tern and White-tailed Eagle. This bird tower is far away from the waters edge so bring a spotting scope.
From the harbour one can have a closer look over the water, but it is difficult to see over the bay, a new birdtower is planned to be built here. West of the parking area there is a marsh and a forest full of birds.
During spring and autumn migration local rarities like Shore Lark, Purple Sandpiper, Broad-billed Sandpiper and Smew can regularly been seen around Ledskär.
A new birding tower was build at the pier during 2021.
Ledskär lies approximately 90 km north of Uppsala and is best reached by following the E4 north towards Tierp. From Tierp drive north towards Skärplinge and road 76. Shortly after you have arrived on road 76 towards Skärplinge there is a sign and a gravel road that goes left towards Ledskär (can be easily missed!), after one kilometer there is a parking area on your right.
