Description

La Serena has a stunning setting with numerous streams and unique landscapes. The steppe is the most emblematic biotope of La Serena, and its importance extends far beyond our borders, as it is listed as a Priority Habitat by the European Union. Furthermore, it is the origin of one of the region's most highly regarded and prized products: La Serena Cheese. You have the chance to observe 10 of the 35 nesting species included on the Red List of Vertebrates of Spain: White Stork, Montagu's Harrier, Lesser Kestrel, Stone-curlew, Little Bustard, Great Bustard, Pin-tailed Sandgrouse, Black-bellied Sandgrouse, Collared Pratincole, and European Roller.

La Serena is a vast area encompassing three distinct landscapes: the dehesa (pastureland), the mountains, and the steppe. The town of Castuera lies at the heart of these three zones. The steppe of La Serena is located east of the town of Castuera, in the province of Badajoz. It covers a very large area, so traveling by car or 4x4 is recommended. It can be accessed from several towns. The suggested 75 km route on the map begins in Castuera.
