Description

In the Cerro del Castaño the old paths that gave birth to Castaño del Robledo as the geographic epicenter of the Sierra Alta de Aracena are today new routes and trails that allow the birder to enter highly the landscapes of the Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche Natural Park.

The old chestnut groves provide shelter for a wide variety of species: a good part of the nocturnal birds of prey such as Little Owl, Tawny Owl, Barn Owl and Eurasian Scops Owl as well as various mammals, such as the fox, the genet, the wild cat, the weasel, the marten or the dormouse find adequate shelter in the many hollow trunks. Whether walking, on horseback or on the wheels of a bicycle, the variety of paths lead the through forests of centuries-old chestnut trees, among the original oak groves, or bordering the coolness of its streams and streams. Among the other birds you can encounter are Common Redstart, Firecrest, European Bee-eater, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Spotted Flycatcher, Rock Bunting and Cirl Bunting.

Espagnol: Este sendero discurre entre viejos bosques de castaños , entre los que se localizan manchas del bosque original constituido por el robledal. Los antiguos caminos que alumbraron el nacimiento de Castaño del Robledo como epicentro geográfico de la sierra alta de Aracena son hoy nuevas rutas y senderos que permiten al viajero adentrarse en unos parajes altamente representativos del Parque Natural Sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche.

Los viejos castañares proporcionan cobijo a una amplia variedad de especies: buena parte de las rapaces nocturnas tal como mochuelos, lechuzas, cárabos, autillos... así como diversos mamíferos, como el zorro, la gineta, el gato montés, la comadreja, la garduña o el lirón careto encuentran adecuado refugio en sus troncos huecos. Ya sea caminando, a caballo o sobre las ruedas de una bicicleta, la variedad de caminos conducen al senderista a través de bosques de castaños centenarios, entre los originales robledales, o bordeando el frescor de sus riachuelos y arroyos.

Access

The route begins within the town of Castaño del Robledo. This circular walk of 6 km is ideal to do on very hot days. Most of the trail you walk in the shade.
