Freshwater lagoon that attracts many birds. The amount of birds depends very much on the water level.
The Albufera of Gayanes (meaning "lagoon" in Valencian), is a freshwater lagoon. It is an endorheic basin lagoon whose waters enter the Serpis river. In 2007 the site that covers a total of 11.2 hectares became a protected area of the Serpis river supporting a diversity of flora and fauna. The lagoon is frequented by many birds. The lagoon is surrounded by dry fields. Although sometimes the lagoon has barely any water, in the time that is full it is a place worth visiting and see birds like White-headed Duck (autumn and winter), Little Grebe, Water Rail, Purple Swamphen, Little Bittern, Little Owl, Common Kingfisher, European Bee-eater, Golden Oriole and Great Reed Warbler.

To get to the lagoon, you will have to go to the small town of Gaianes (Gayanes) and leave the CV-705 by a rural road that will take you to the lagoon. Click on the P in the map to get directions. Note: a sign at the entrance tells that it is a private estate. But when the gate is open you are allowed to enter. In case the gate is closed you can pass by the right side of the cypress trees (the farm is not fenced) and then head towards the walkway that takes you to the bird hide.
