This very old park has some trees that are centuries old, buildings of historical importance, statues and lawns, as well as a scenic lake and canal.
Part of the Topčiderski Park includes very old trees (some are several centuries old) and short-grass lawns. There is also a small patch of secondary forest in urban environment, a scenic lake, a canal with concrete banks. The holes in the old trees are used for nesting by Jackdaw, Common Starling, Eurasian Green Woodpecker, Eurasian Nuthatch, Middle Spotted Woodpecker and other hole-nesting birds. There are also many Common Wood Pigeon, Common Chaffinch and other open-nest species. The park is characterized by temperature inversion, so it is always several degrees colder than in the surrounding hills. In winter Grey Wagtail and smaller sandpipers appear at the banks of the canal. Many ducklings of Mallard are seen in summer.
Topčiderski Park is accessible by buses 94 and 49 as well as by tram 3. A railway station is situated at the edge. The area can be best explored by walking.
