Description

Kapetanski Rit is one of the biggest fish farms in Serbia and attracts many bird species like Osprey (on migration), Western Marsh Harrier, White-tailed Eagle, and many duck and reed warbler species. The smaller and shallower ponds are the perfect place to look for shorebirds, like Avocet, Black-tailed Godwit, Black-winged Stilt, Eurasian Curlew, Whimbrel, Ruff and Common Redshank. The fish farm is really huge, so be prepared to spend at least several hours, if not the whole day. Follow the asphalt road that passes along the fish farm, look for birds from the car, park occasionally, and detour shortly to visit smaller ponds scattered on both sides of the road, often in the second line so make sure not to miss them, as they are usually very productive.
