Description

Zambujal is part of the Reserva Natural do Estuário do Sado. The road crosses a tidal arm with mudflats where many waders can be seen. But the road also passes patches of forest, wide fields, wetlands and salt marshes. So a wide variety of birds can be spotted. Among the birds you can encounter are Northern Shoveler, Common Pochard, Greater Flamingo, Little Grebe, Black-winged Stilt, Avocet, European Golden Plover, Whimbrel, Eurasian Curlew, Ruddy Turnstone, Dunlin, Common Snipe, Common Sandpiper, Common Greenshank, Common Redshank, Mediterranean Gull, Sandwich Tern, White Stork, Great Bittern, Little Bittern, Squacco Heron, Glossy Ibis, Eurasian Spoonbill, Osprey, Little Owl, Eurasian Hoopoe, Common Kingfisher, Golden Oriole, Iberian Grey Shrike, Iberian Magpie, Sedge Warbler, Dartford Warbler, Yellow-crowned Bishop, Common Waxbill and Scaly-breasted Munia.
