Description

The area near Kościan is a fantastic destination for birdwatchers. Along the canals, vast meadows stretch for kilometers, providing rich feeding grounds and nesting sites. These habitats attract a remarkable variety of raptors, meadow species, and birds typical of a mosaic landscape where fields, pastures, trees, and waterways intermix. Such diversity makes the site particularly valuable. In one outing you can observe hunting buzzards or harriers, hear larks and pipits in the grasslands, and see herons or storks searching for food along the ditches. The combination of open meadows and small patches of woodland or farmland creates ideal conditions for spotting many different species in a single visit.

In this area, you can take shorter or longer loops, or simply wander across the meadows without sticking to designated paths. Partly paved roads also make it possible to explore the site by bike. Birds you can observe include Greylag Goose, Mute Swan, Mallard, Common Quail ,Common Crane, Northern Lapwing, White Stork, Grey Heron, Great Egret, Osprey, Lesser Spotted Eagle, Western Marsh Harrier, Hen Harrier, Montagu's Harrier, Sparrowhawk, Red Kite, Common Buzzard, Eurasian Kestrel, Red-backed Shrike, Great Grey Shrike, Common Raven and Barn Swallow.

The agricultural landscape and abundance of food attracts birds that are rare in Poland and unusual to this region. Long-legged Buzzard and Pallid Harrier have repeatedly been seen in this area. In 2025, Steppe Eagle was also seen in the area.
