Wide North Sea beach at the easternmost tip of Vlieland. Beautiful view on the island of Terschelling and great spot for birding during autumn migration.
Via a nice beach walk you reach the most eastern point of Vlieland. You have a view of the island of Terschelling, the North Sea, the Wadden Sea and the wide beach. You can find different species of terns, sandpipers, sea ducks and seagulls. But in the autumn it is also a very good place to experience the bird migration. It is the arrival point of many migratory birds that arrive from Terschelling or from the North Sea. Large numbers of songbirds can often be seen here, including species such as Whinchat, Ring Ouzel and Northern Wheatear and more rare birds like Eurasian Wryneck and Barred Warbler. It is always worth to also check the dunes and the vegetation that borders the beach for these birds.

Vlieland can be reached by ferry from Harlingen. Several boats leave per day and the crossing takes about an hour and a half (see link for ferry tickets below). The walk to the eastern tip can be started from different places. If you want to make a circular walk from the village of Oost-Vlieland, the idea is that you walk around the eastern point of the island of Vlieland through the woods, the marina and the beach. The map shows an example of a 5 km circular walk.

Hotelletje de Veerman is a household name among Dutch birdwatchers. The hotel is ideally and wonderfully quietly located on the edge of the village of Oost-Vlieland and on the Wadden Sea. At low tide birds are foraging right in front of the hotel. The hotel also borders the Westerse Veld. These meadows and grasslands on the Wadden Sea are a magnet for birds. Rarities and vagrants are regularly seen here. From the hotel you can walk there within a minute. The hotel's breakfast is famous. It is not only very tasty, but bird watchers have also been thought of. At breakfast you get a bag to take lunch with you. This way you can enjoy lunch on a bench in nature during the walks and optimally enjoy the birds and the Vlieland landscape.
