This area, best visited in the afternoon for light conditions, often holds interesting (wintering) seabirds between the poles of the mussel beds.
The mussel beds in this part of the Wadden Sea are a good feeding ground for birds like Common Eider , Black-necked Grebe and, in winter, Red-throated Diver and/or Common Guillemot . When you're lucky, you may find a Slavonian Grebe or a Red-necked Grebe between the numerous Black-necked Grebe , that gather here after the breeding season.

There is a parking lot along the IJsdijk and a maintenance road as well as a staircase going over the dike. Most of the birds can easily be seen from the dike. In winter, it may be interesting to search the outer rocks for Rock Pipit and Snow Bunting.

The Wadden Sea can be quite choppy, but the grebes can still be there. It may be worthwhile to take an extra good look.
