This relatively young forest has an older and a newer part, the latter being planted between 1983 and 1985. There several water bodies in the forest.
The Krimbos forest has good cycle paths and beautiful foot paths to explore. Despite its young age, there are many interesting flowers, butterflies and mushrooms to be found. Birds like Common Kingfisher , Sparrowhawk and Common Buzzard are regular visitors or, the latter two, even breeding residents. In autumn, the forest is often visited by rare migrants like Yellow-browed Warbler or even Pallas's Leaf Warbler. The small lake in the centre of the forest is often visited by Northern Shoveler , Gadwall , Little Grebe or sometimes Common Snipe or even Jack Snipe (autumn migration).

You can visit the forest on foot or by bike from the neighbouring village De Cocksdorp, where parking possibilities are amply available (you do need the island-wide parking permit (see https://texelevignet.nl/). In the forest itself there are few possibilities and most of them are for only a few cars or owned by the neighbouring holiday resorts.
In spring, birds like Mistle Thrush may sing here. In winter there have been records of Eurasian Bullfinch , although nog every year. The south-eastern part of the forest is often visited by groups of songbirds in winter. Long-tailed Tit , Eurasian Blue Tit , Great Titand Goldcrestcan form flocks together with Common Chiffchaff and Yellow-browed Warbler . This half-open area is also the place where in 2018 the first American warbler for Texel was found: the Red-eyed Vireo.
