Description
Kelsdonk is an area of wet grasslands with scattered alder and willow groves that attract many birds. In this 250 hectare wet meadow area, grassland, water, shrubbery and hedges alternate. A few years ago a large lake was dug on which many migratory bird make a stop. The meadows are partly mowed and partly grazed by cows. The water level is kept extra high by various dams. This makes the area very wet and ideal for, for example Common Snipe. Among the other birds you can encounter are Common Teal, Northern Shoveler, Eurasian Oystercatcher, Eurasian Curlew, Northern Lapwing, Black-tailed Godwit, Eurasian Kestrel, Reed Bunting, Bluethroat, Eurasian Skylark and European Stonechat.

Nederlands: Kelsdonk is een gebied met natte graslanden met hier en daar elzenbosjes en wilgenbosjes die veel vogels aantrekken. In dit natte weidegebied van 250 hectare wisselen grasland, water, struweel en heggen elkaar af. Enkele jaren geleden is nog een grote plas gegraven waarop veel trekvogels pleisteren. De weilanden worden deels gemaaid en deels beweid met koeien. De waterstand wordt extra hoog gehouden door verschillende dammetjes. Hierdoor is het gebied heel nat en uitstekend geschikt voor bijvoorbeeld Common Snipe. Andere vogels die je hier kunt tegenkomen zijn Common Teal, Northern Shoveler, Eurasian Oystercatcher, Eurasian Curlew, Northern Lapwing, Black-tailed Godwit, Eurasian Kestrel, Reed Bunting, Bluethroat, Eurasian Skylark en European Stonechat.

Access
Kelsdonk is located in the Ettense Beemden and accessible via the village of Etten-Leur. At the end of the Haansberg road turn right into the Windgat and at the first road on the left there is a sign Kelsdonk. Park here and this is where the walk starts. The area is freely accessible via a marked walk of 3,5 km. The trail is marked with green signs. In 2024, another circular walk was opened. This route is marked with yellow signs and is approximately 4.5 km long. The two routes have an overlap of more than 700 meters. New to the yellow route is the Helophyte field and a bird viewing screen has been erected nearby. Please wear sturdy high waterproof shoes or boots as the area can be very wet in places.

Nederlands: Kelsdonk is gelegen in de Ettense Beemden en bereikbaar via Etten-Leur. Aan het einde van de Haansberg rechtsaf het Windgat in en bij de eerste weg links staat een bordje Kelsdonk. Hier parkeren en hier start de wandeling. Het gebied is vrij toegankelijk via een uitgezette wandeling van 3,5 km die is gemarkeerd met groene bordjes. In 2024 is er een nieuwe rondwandeling geopend. Deze route is gemarkeerd met gele bordjes en zo'n 4,5 km lang. De beide routes hebben een overlap van ruim 700 meter. Nieuw aan de gele route is het Helofytenveld en vlak daarbij is een vogelscherm opgericht. Trek stevige hoge waterdichte schoenen aan of draag laarzen want het gebied kan plaatselijk erg nat zijn.
