Description

A mosaic of water, reed, swamp groves and grasslands in the excavated peat. That is De Deelen, in the heart of the province of Friesland. In autumn and winter, thousands of ducks and geese, including Eurasian Wigeon, Greater White-fronted Goose, Northern Shoveler and Barnacle Goose come to De Deelen. Rare species such as Black Tern, Purple Heron and Western Marsh Harrier also live in the area. If you listen carefully, you may be able to hear the Grasshopper Warbler singing in the spring. Other birds you can see here are Greylag Goose, Eurasian Spoonbill, Bluethroat, Eurasian Curlew, Mallard, Tufted Duck, Common Pochard, Great Crested Grebe, Common Buzzard, Canada Goose, Reed Bunting and Common Tern.

Small parking lot available. It is a walking area with some marked paths, Unfortunately also sometimes used by dog walkers. Has a small bird observatory. From the parking to the birdhide is about 1 km.
