Sogna is a historic hilltop community above the Val d'Ambra in an area of mixed forest and olive orchards in Tuscany's Arezzo province.
The countryside around Sogna makes for an easy birding trip year-round, but particularly active in April and May when a nice variety of both migrant and resident birds are possible. The holm oak decidious forest has regrown since the earlier abandonment of agriculture in the last century and the route also includes agricultural areas, primarily in olive orchards. The gardens in and around the community of Sogna also host numerous species.
Sogna is best reached by car and can be found by entering Sogna (AR) in mapping platforms. Park at the upper (of two) parking areas (free) for Sogna and walk or bicycle from there. Additionally there are several worth while stops from the community of Ambra on route to Sogna that can be birdy. There is no public transportation to Sogna (closest bus stop is in Ambra). Sogna is about 35 minutes from Siena and an hour and ten minutes from Florence by car.
Sogna is a wonderfully restored community and visitors are welcome to walk the paths through the community and surrounding area.
