Description

Kibbutz Kfar Ruppin is an agricultural community specialising in fish farming and irrigated crops. It is at the north end of the Jordan valley, a pinch point for migration between Africa and Europe. Thus up to 50,000 White Stork, 50,000 Red-footed Falcon, 400,000 European Honey-buzzard, 140,000 Lesser Spotted Eagle, plus Booted Eagle, Steppe Buzzard, Short-toed Snake Eagle, Spur-winged Lapwing, Temminck's Stint, etc may pass through the area. The ponds attract herons, egrets, storks, pelicans, flamingos, Common Kingfisher, Pied Kingfisher and White-throated Kingfisher, Western Marsh Harrier, Little Bittern, Pygmy Cormorant, Eurasian Spoonbill, Common Snipe and Jack Snipe. Drainage of the ponds causes a high concentration of birds.
