Less than 10 minutes by boat from Drangsnes is the small island of Grimsey, home to thousands of seabirds.
The boat trip in the Steingrímsfjörður starts with sailing around of the island of Grímsey. On the island you can see colonies of Razorbill, European Shag, Common Guillemot and Kittiwake as well as thousands of Atlantic Puffin flying overhead. Also good chance to see Northern Fulmar, Black Guillemot, Common Eider, Arctic Tern, Great Northern Diver and Red-throated Diver. On a guided walk you can hike up to the lighthouse. With an estimated breeding colony of around 60,000 Atlantic Puffin, this is one of the few tours in Iceland where you actually get to walk the island and get a close look at the birds.
By boat from Drangsnes Harbour. Click on the P in the map for directions to the harbour. The price for a 3 hour boat trip is about 65 Euro per adult. All tours are weather dependent. Dress warmly. Hiking shoes are recommended. For departure times and boat tickets see the link below.
