This site on the island of Sylt is one of the best places in Germany for seawatching. Rarities are regularly observed during seawatching in Westerland.
Due to the exposed location of the island of Sylt, many pelagic birds can be observed from the west beach of Westerland at any time of year, but especially during the autumn storms. To name just a few of the regular species: Great Skua, Arctic Skua, Sooty Shearwater, Northern Fulmar, Common Guillemot, Northern Gannet and Razorbill. In addition, many other, sometimes even rarer, species can be observed with a bit of luck.
The town of Westerland is located at the middle of the island of Sylt. Press P on the map for directions to a parking. Access to the beach is possible on foot.
