Description

The Northeimer Seenplatte (the Northeim Lake District) was created by gravel mining. It covers an area of about 360 hectares and consists of 12 artificial lakes. Together with the adjacent Geschiebesperre Hollenstedt (a shallow wetland on the banks of the river Leine), this is a very bird rich area. Bird observation towers, bird hides and viewing points make it easy to observe the birds. Among the birds you can encounter are Greater White-fronted Goose, Northern Shoveler, Ruff, Dunlin, Red-backed Shrike, Sedge Warbler, Little Ringed Plover and White Stork. But many more, see the birdlist below.
