Public cemetery with many paths that lead between different types of trees. Note that the Nordfriedhof has limited opening hours.
Thanks to the different tree species, a variety of bird species can be found in the Nordfriedhof Köln (northern cemetery Cologne). For example Eurasian Bullfinch and Crested Tit in conifers or Common Buzzard and Eurasian Goshawk in large deciduous trees. Because of the many paths, it is easy to explore the area and the birds are used to people. The Nordfriedhof is one of the few quiet places in Cologne where forest birds can be observed.
In front of the Nordfriedhof there are some parking lots for both cars and bicycles. With public transport: Stadtbahn lines 12 and 15, stop: Mollwitzstrasse. Click on the P in the map for directions to the parking. From the parking you can explore the cemetery on foot. Driving and cycling are prohibited in the cemetery itself.
The North Cemetery only has limited opening hours and may not and cannot be entered after these. Summer: 07.00–20.00 Winter: 08.00-17.00. Since it is a place for grieving people, there should also be the necessary respect for them.
