Wonderful view of the Nieplitz lowlands. The wet meadows, seasonal floodings and the Nieplitz stream attract many birds.
The Nuthe-Nieplitz lowland is a bird's paradise. The observation tower on the Nieplitzwiesen near Beelitz gives good views of the area and its birds. You have a wonderful view of the Nieplitz lowlands with small alder quarries and flowering wet meadows, of the Nieplitzlauf and a reed arm of the Nieplitz. The Nieplitzwiesen are flooded in spring and offer White Stork, Northern Lapwing or Black Kite a good range of food, breeding opportunities and resting places. Also during bird migration, many birds can be seen. Among the other birds you can see here are Greylag Goose, Red Kite, Common Buzzard, Eurasian Kestrel, European Goldfinch, Common Crane, Great Cormorant, Eurasian Wigeon, Great Egret and Common Kingfisher.
By bike and train from the Beelitz city station, take the F5 cycle path over the Nieplitz to the Katzenberg. By car, drive south of Beelitz via the B2 on Treuenbrietzener Straße to the industrial area, take the first exit on the right, after about 200 meters turn left into Grenzelweg and after about 1.8 kilometers you will reach the observation tower. The best way to explore the area is by bike along the agricultural roads.
