Description
The Kuhlenvenn is a 67 hectare nature reserve and a remnant of the Weißen Venns (White Fens), the largest moorland area in Westphalia. No remains of the former raised bog have been preserved. But the Kuhlenvenn was redeveloped into a nature reserve and nowadays consists of extensively used grassland, wet meadows and a lake. The Kuhlenvenn is an important reserve for water, wading and meadow birds which use the area for breeding, foraging, resting or wintering. Among the birds you can encounter are Eurasian Curlew, Northern Lapwing, Great Cormorant, Black-tailed Godwit, Eurasian Oystercatcher, Western Yellow Wagtail, Red-backed Shrike, European Stonechat and Little Grebe.
