Description
The Hemmelsdorfer See is a lake that has many different water birds, depending on the time of year. Breeding birds include Mute Swan, Gadwall, Eurasian Coot and Great Crested Grebe. Other birds that are observerd regularly are Common Kingfisher, White-tailed Eagle, Western Marsh Harrier, Reed Warbler, Great Reed Warbler, Bluethroat and Bearded Tit. During migration you can observe birds like Little Gull, Osprey, Black Tern and Common Pochard.
Coolest one I've seen were Smew in winter and I heard Golden Oriole in the trees in summer. The boardwalk goes out into the lake and along the reeds. Also great spot for landscape photography.

Access
The Hemmelsdorfer See is located north of Lübeck in the immediate vicinity of the Baltic Sea. The restaurant has a small parking lot, in which you can get a spot very early in the morning. . Otherwise there is a free, public parking area available a little further down the road, which I marked as the trail head. Click on a P in the map for directions.
