Description
At Harlesiel and Elisabethgroden the areas outside the dike are particularly worth watching all year round. Due to the extensive salt marsh, the Wadden Sea is too far away to clearly see the birds there, but there are several pools/gullies outside the dike. Large groups of Avocet and Eurasian Spoonbill rest there between late summer and autumn. All four species of harriers (Western Marsh Harrier, Hen Harrier, Montagu's Harrier and Pallid Harrier) can be found in the salt marshes in summer. Large resting groups of geese and Northern Lapwing as well as European Golden Plover can be found on the agricultural lands inside the dikes, especially in autumn and winter.

Access
Harlesiel and Elisabethgroden can ideally be cycled. Alternatively, you can drive along the dike and observe the agricultural lands from the car and stop at two positions on the dike and walk from there to observe the salt marsh and the pools. Click on a P in the map for directions.
