Description

The Groß Schauener Seenkette nature reserve, located around 50 kilometers south-east of Berlin, is a popular attraction for birders. Along a 2 km long trail and from a 12 meter high observation tower you can see birds like Common Crane, different kinds of ducks and geese, Great Cormorant, Bluethroat, Common Nightingale, Sedge Warbler, Great Reed Warbler, Western Marsh Harrier, Red Kite, Black Kite as well as Osprey and White-tailed Eagle. With a bit of luck you can hear Great Bittern call in spring. The extensive water network is also an ideal habitat for the otter. If you arrive early in the morning, you might spot one hunting for fish.
