Description

Fermasee and the floodplain of Altrhein Neuburgweier attract many birds. Parts of the lake are used by anglers and for bathing in summer. However, in winter the birds take the centre stage. There are often good numbers of Tufted Duck, Common Pochard, Gadwall, Mallard and Mute Swan. If you are lucky, you can also see Common Goldeneye, Red-crested Pochard and Smew here. Over the years, a number of rarer sea ducks and divers have been observed here, including Velvet Scoter, Red-breasted Merganser, Slavonian Grebe and Red-throated Diver.

The orchards and fields to the east of the lake are a good place to look out for Fieldfare, Redwing, Rook and Jackdaw.
