Description
During the winter months, many migratory duck and geese species rest at Altwarmbüchener See, such as Greylag Goose, Canada Goose, Egyptian Goose, Mallard, Tufted Duck, Common Teal, Gadwall, Eurasian Wigeon, Common Goldeneye, Common Pochard, Goosander and Tundra Bean Goose. Also Mute Swan, Great Cormorant, Great Crested Grebe, Great Egret and Grey Heron can be seen regularly. The park around the lake is home to White Wagtail, Willow Tit, Marsh Tit, Common Chiffchaff, Eurasian Bullfinch, Blackbird and many more.
During the summer months there is a lot of bathing activity and observation opportunities are limited.

Access
Altwarmbüchener See is located northeast of the city of Hannover. The lake is easily accessible by public transport (tram line 3). The tram stops (1) are 500–900 m from the lake. There are also numerous parking spaces available. Press a P on the map for directions to a parking lot. A circular path (3,5 km) leads around the lake. In summer, there is a kiosk, boat rentals, and public restrooms.
