Description
Alte Elbe is an old arm of the river Elbe near the town of Gerwisch. Good chances to see White-tailed Eagle, Osprey and Common Crane. Many waterbirds, especially during migration time (e.g., Great Egret, Grey Heron, Greylag Goose, Taiga Bean Goose, Northern Shoveler, Common Teal, Garganey, Whooper Swan, Smew, Goosander, Great Crested Grebe, Little Grebe, Northern Lapwing, Common Greenshank, Spotted Redshank, Ruff). In the adjacent areas Red Kite, Black Kite, Eurasian Kestrel, Black Woodpecker, Eurasian Wryneck, and very occasionally European Bee-eater or Eurasian Hoopoe can be seen.

Access
The Alte Elbe is located near the towns of Gerwisch and Biederitz. From the towns you can access the area via field paths on foot or bicycle. Click on a P in the map for directions to a parking place.
