Because Batumi is located on a major migratory route, this elongated park parallel to Batumi's waterfront can be packed with birds during the migration season.
Batumi Boulevard Park can be surprisingly good for birdwatching. Especially on rainy days during the migration season, many migrants come down. The park, especially its north end, often teems with passerines, which are easy to find and observe. Red-breasted Flycatcher can be abundant, and Thrush Nightingale give very good views. Eurasian Wryneck, Common Redstart, Mountain Chiffchaff (Caucasian), Green Warbler, Blackcap, Garden Warbler, Lesser Whitethroat, Greater Whitethroat and Spotted Flycatcher are often numerous, and occasionally something rare turns up. Check the branches of the pines for sleeping Eurasian Nightjar and Eurasian Scops Owl.
Going further north, there was a good grassy area near the Ferris wheel, but most of this area is now fenced. This was a really good spot for all sorts of migrants, but still worth checking the areas outside the fence in early morning even if you only have an hour or so. Birds that have been spotted here include Common Quail, European Turtle Dove, Ortolan Bunting, Black-headed Bunting, Barred Warbler, Bluethroat, Great Reed Warbler, Savi's Warbler, Red-throated Pipit, Lesser Grey Shrike and Red-backed Shrike.
Batumi Boulevard Park is located parallel to Batumi's waterfront and easy accessible. The circular walk of 3 km indicated on the map is just a suggestion. There are many other paths to explore the park and the many patches of woodland dotted around it.
