Description
The Seudre estuary is home to a large portion of the population of the nanmetum subspecies of the Γαλαζολαίμης, which is endemic to the French Atlantic coast. With a bit of luck it can be observed here (other good spots are the Pointe de la Coubre, Marais de Brouage and RNMO). Some breeding birds of the Moulin des Loges reserve are Κιτρινοσουσουράδα, (Ευρωπαϊκό) Ψευταηδόνι, σταβλοχελίδονο, Καλαμοκανάς and more.
Nearby (Ευρασιατική) Χουλιαρομύτα and different heron species, such as (Κοινός) Νυχτοκόρακας are breeding, as well as Ποταμογλάρονο. Besides from that you can observe (Ευρωπαϊκή) Σαρσέλα during spring migration, (Ευρασιατική) Χαλκόκοτα, Καλαμόκιρκος, Φιδαετός, Μαχητής, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Λιμόζα (keep your eyes open for the islandica subspecies), (Κοινό) Μπεκατσίνι and many more species (see the list below). The open landscape also allows good observations of migrating passerines, like Καστανολαίμης, Μαυρομυγοχάφτης or Σταχτοπετρόκλης. On the nearby fields you can observe Κοκκινοπέρδικα, (Ευρωπαϊκό) Βροχοπούλι (only during winter), (Ευρωπαϊκή) Καλημάνα and Τσιφτάς. Note that in end of August the hunt for waders and ducks begins, which makes good observations harder.
