Description
A set of 5 ponds where you can see an average of 30 bird species over 4.5 km in two hours. 151 species have been observed there in the last 10 years. Aquatic birds are very present there including 3 species of nesting ducks Mallard, Common Pochard, Tufted Duck as well as other nesting species Great Crested Grebe, Eurasian Coot, Eurasian Moorhen, Common Kingfisher.
The herons are very present with Grey Heron, Cattle Egret, in winter Great Egret and all year round Little Egret. The Common Tern is a breeder in some years and in summer there are many Common Sandpiper passing by. In winter Green Sandpiper as well as Common Snipe are often present.
The ponds are located in the middle of the hedged countryside, which explains the presence of bird species from this environment rich in trees and hedges like European Turtle Dove, Common Nightingale, Common Wood Pigeon, Eurasian Kestrel, Common Buzzard, Common Pochard, Eurasian Coot, Eurasian Moorhen. There is no shortage of passerines in winter like Meadow Pipit, Water Pipit.

Near MONCOUTANT on the road to Niort go towards the indication PESCALIS which is a fishing site open free to walkers and favorable to the presence of birds. There are several parking spaces. It is possible to tour the ponds on foot or by bicycle, depending on the season you will see different species of birds. Some are in large numbers in winter when the ponds are drained Black-headed Gull, Great Egret, Great Cormorant Green Sandpiper Water Pipit In spring certain species are easily spotted by their song Common Nightingale, European Turtle Dove, Cetti's Warbler, Blackcap.

Français: Près de MONCOUTANT sur la route de Niort se diriger vers l'indication PESCALIS qui est un site de pêche ouvert gratuitement aux promeneurs et favorable à la présence des oiseaux. Plusieurs parking pour autos sont possibles sur le site. Il est possible de faire le tour des étangs à pied ou en bicyclette.Selon les saisons vous y verrez différentes espèces d'oiseaux. Certaines sont en grand nombre l'hiver lors de la vidange des étangs Black-headed Gull, Great Egret, Great Cormorant, Green Sandpiper, Water Pipit.
Au printemps certaines espèces sont facilement repérable par leur chant Common Nightingale, European Turtle Dove, Cetti's Warbler, Blackcap.

The site is interesting throughout the year. You are sure to see about thirty species on average when you go around the ponds in about two to three hours of walking time. There may be surprises depending on the season such as: Black-crowned Night Heron, Purple Heron, Osprey, Greylag Goose, Black-winged Stilt, Avocet, Black Tern, Whiskered Tern, Eurasian Woodcock, Black Stork. Yellow-browed Warbler and many more.
