Description
Lac de Créteil is a former gravel pit dug in the old alluvium of the Seine and Marne near their confluences. The development of the quarry into a lake gave it an elongated shape. The lake is 1,500m long and has a width varying from 250 to 400m. Its average depth is 4m. The water, reed beds and wooded banks attract many birds. Among the birds you can encounter are Great Crested Grebe, Great Cormorant, Common Kingfisher, Red-crested Pochard, Rose-ringed Parakeet, Goldcrest, Eurasian Green Woodpecker, Reed Bunting and in winter Goosander.

Français: Le lac de Créteil est localisé dans la banlieue sud-est de Paris. Il s’agissait à l’origine d’une carrière d’extraction de gypse et de graviers. Cette gravière exploitée de 1940 à 1976, creusée dans les anciennes alluvions de la Seine et de la Marne proches de leurs confluents, a atteint la nappe phréatique de Champigny, alimentée par la Marne, ce qui a conduit à la formation de mares profondes. L’aménagement de la carrière en lac après de nombreux travaux lui a donné une forme allongée selon un axe nord-sud. Il possède un allongement maximal de 1 500m pour une largeur variant de 250 à 400m. Sa profondeur moyenne est de 4m avec un maximum de 6m pour une surface qui atteint 40ha. Son pourtour est de 4km environ.

Access
Lac de Créteil is located in the south-eastern suburbs of Paris. Easy to reach with Metro line 8 to station Créteil–Préfecture (400 m walk to the lake). There are also several parkings around the lake. Click on a P in the map to get directions. A circular walk is about 4 km long. Note: It is a recreation lake, so it can be very busy at times.

Il y a aussi plusieurs parkings autour du lac. Cliquez sur un P sur la carte pour obtenir un itinéraire. Une promenade circulaire est d'environ 4 km de long. Remarque : Il s'agit d'un lac de loisirs, il peut donc être très fréquenté à certains moments.
