Cliffs overhanging the Rhône, which cuts here a narrow passage between Savoie and Ain.
The cliffs of Gorges de la Balme are occupied in summer by a colony of Alpine Swift. Other birds you can see around the cliffs are Crag Martin, Jackdaw, Eagle Owl and Peregrine Falcon. The site is visited in winter by Wallcreeper. On the river Rhône it is possible to observe: Goosander (breeder in the woods on the slope), Great Cormorant, Common Kingfisher, Little Grebe, Grey Wagtail ...and the beaver!

Français: Falaises surplombant le Rhône, qui taille ici un étroit passage entre la Savoie et l'Ain. Las falaises sont occupées en été par une colonie de Martinets à ventre blanc. Des Hirondelles de rochers, Choucas des tours, Grand-Duc d'Europe et Faucon pèlerin. Le site est visité en hiver par le Tichodromme échelette. Sur le Rhône ilest possible d'observer : Harle bièvre (nicheur dans les bois de pente), grand cormoran, Martin-pêcheur, Grèbe castagneux, Bergeronnette des ruisseaux...et le Castor!
If you drive along the river Rhône from the village of Yenne to the west you will drive through the Gorges de la Balme.
