Description

Cap de Carteret is a rocky cape, 40 metres above the sea. High on the headland’s plateau, heathland covered with yellow-flowering gorse is home to the Dartford Warbler, while the Common Raven and the Peregrine Falcon amuse themselves around the steep-sided schist and sandstone cliffs where the annual rock rose grows. At the lighthouse, recently restored low dry-stone walls help preserve the site and guide visitors along the cliff tops of the Côte-des-Isles. Other birds you can see here are Eurasian Kestrel and Meadow Pipit and of course sea birds. Common Ringed Plover, Ruddy Turnstone and Eurasian Oystercatcher can be seen in winter.
