Outlet of Lake Saimaa, runs to Lake Ladoga (Russia). River doesn´t have much ice cover in winter time. Birds can be observed in different places.
The best place to see wintering waterfowl in South Karelia. Spring and autumn time when lakes are covered with ice, some migratory birds usually arrive first or stay long at River Vuoksi. Birds you can see here are: Canada Goose, Whooper Swan, Eurasian Wigeon, Mallard, Common Goldeneye, Goosander, European Herring Gull and Great Cormorant.
The area is best explored by car because there are different places where you can find birds. But also walking and cycling is possible.
Rare birds that has been seen in River Vuoksi are for example Great Northern Diver, Yellow-billed Diver and Northern Gannet.
