Important bird area (IBA) with seabird breedings sites on high cliffs and grassland.
There is a small community on the island. Skuvoy which is named after the large number of Great Skua breeding there, is an island with a rugged coast, steep cliffs, boulder-screes and grass slopes. The cliffs are breeding sites of Northern Fulmar , Manx Shearwater , European Storm Petrel , Common Guillemot , Black Guillemot , Atlantic Puffin and Kittiwake . Whimbrel are breeding on the grassland.
There is a passenger ferry operating the route between the more northern island Sandur and Skuvoy several times per day (mostly only on request). Travelling time: 35 min. Departure times may vary due to adverse weather conditions. The bus 101 is connecting Thorshavn and Gamlaraett, where a ferry brings you to Sandoy.
