Reserve that protects Lake Aardla, its wet meadows and birds that live or feed there. Very interesting place for bird watching with a big variety of birds.
Lake Aardla Reserve (also known as the Botanical-Ornithological Reserve of Lake Aardla) is a protected area of 132.5 hectares (99.5 hectares of land and 33 hectares of water). The reserve was formed in 1991 to protect the lake and its surroundings, where several protected species of birds live. In 2014, the Ropka-Ihaste Nature Reserve was established to further protect the area. Among the birds you can see in the area are Common Goldeneye, Red-necked Grebe, Common Crane, Northern Lapwing, Ruff, Wood Sandpiper, Common Snipe, Penduline Tit, Black Tern, Great Bittern, Lesser Spotted Eagle, Eurasian Hobby and Western Marsh Harrier.
Lake Aardla Reserve is directly south of the city of Tartu and easy to reach (about 5 km) from the city.
